Tropical Storm Fiona forms in Atlantic
Tropical Storm Fiona attained tropical storm status Wednesday afternoon over the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean, packing top sustained winds of 40 MPH.
Fiona is located 1095 miles west of the African Cape Verde Islands and is moving west northwest at 8 MPH. Fiona is the sixth named store of 2016.
Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said they expect Fiona to strengthen slightly in the next 48 hours, and maintain tropical storm status through Saturday.
Given its distance from land, Fiona is not expected to threaten land through the weekend.
