Earth shattered another heat record in August
August 2016 was hotter around the globe than any August before it since records began in 1880, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
This is the 16th month in a row such a record has been broken.
NOAA says the overall land and ocean temperatures were 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than average, the eighth highest monthly temperature departure on record.
With all eight months breaking heat records in 2016, experts believe the Earth is on track to experience its hottest year on record.
